Abrams Has Hidden Image of a Face<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S_3ashBmSvI/AAAAAAAAIT8/x10sRwtSre8/s1600/Super+8-J.J.+Abrams-teaser-hidden+alien+face.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S_3ashBmSvI/AAAAAAAAIT8/x10sRwtSre8/s400/Super+8-J.J.+Abrams-teaser-hidden+alien+face.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S_3aAGrUC-I/AAAAAAAAIT0/RkxROtJyYVw/s1600/Super+8-J.J.+Abrams-broken+projector+lens.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="144" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S_3aAGrUC-I/AAAAAAAAIT0/RkxROtJyYVw/s200/Super+8-J.J.+Abrams-broken+projector+lens.jpg" width="200" /></a>Let's face it, director J.J. Abrams is fond of hidden and mysterious television and movie monsters. In the series, Lost, there's the smoke monster. In Cloverfield, there's the monster that wrecks havoc in New York. In Star Trek, there's that giant snapping monster that thought of having Captain Kirk for lunch. In most cases, Abrams teases viewers about these creatures, leaving much to the imagination (at least in the beginning) and revealing details like appearance, for later in the series or movie. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S_3fJ9vNwFI/AAAAAAAAIUE/si9l6F7ed_k/s1600/Super+8-Sci-fi+movie-J.J._Abrams_by_David_Shankbone.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S_3fJ9vNwFI/AAAAAAAAIUE/si9l6F7ed_k/s200/Super+8-Sci-fi+movie-J.J._Abrams_by_David_Shankbone.jpg" width="160" /></a></div>In the trailer of his <a href="http://www.moviedime.com/jj-abramss-super-8-teaser-has-a-hidden-picture-of-the-alien/">sci-fi thriller, Super 8</a>, the alien is shown attempting to escape after the train that's taking it to a secure place collides with a pickup truck. The alien monster punches its way through a steel door, but is not revealed and leaves people wondering about what it looks like. Of course, if you've already watched the movie, you won't be interested in this. But did you know that Abrams (left) inserted a hidden image in the teaser of Super 8? Well, it's not exactly hidden, but it is unnoticeable unless you slow things down. It's the image in the above picture. What is it? Is it the monster? Is it an alien? Is it a kid? Shhh. Don't tell if you already know. =)<br />
<br />
What's obvious is that the image appears to be a face with large eyes! It shows up briefly near the end when the camera zooms out from the escaping-alien-scene to reveal the lens of a projector that appears (or is implied) to be playing a Super 8mm film roll. There also appears to be a message of some sort spelled out by the letters that appear in the lens (top; left). If played frame by frame, you will get the following:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S_8vBKzbJLI/AAAAAAAAIU0/XsEcz-nGBFA/s1600/Super+8-trailer-J.J.+Abrams-hidden+movie+website+clue.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="65" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S_8vBKzbJLI/AAAAAAAAIU0/XsEcz-nGBFA/s320/Super+8-trailer-J.J.+Abrams-hidden+movie+website+clue.PNG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Do what you want with it. It's part of the thrill! Anyway, we have to admit how sneaky Abrams is! He likes the kind of promotion that blurs reality with fiction. He did it with the Lost series, which did pull loyal viewers in, we have to admit. Anyway, I won't go into details regarding the hidden messages in the Super 8 trailer, but if you wish, you can do your own research and see where your efforts lead you, beginning with the clue above.<br />

The much-hyped ballroom dance sequence of Belle and the Beast prince delivered in that it gave something new in the way animation was done by Disney. It heralded a new age of cartoons when computers became the basic tool for drawing and animating. It also signaled the seeming end of hand-drawn cel animation.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S1e33HjySdI/AAAAAAAAHxQ/HxjERsuTfOA/s1600-h/The+Princess+and+the+Frog-the+kiss.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429010033368254930" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S1e33HjySdI/AAAAAAAAHxQ/HxjERsuTfOA/s200/The+Princess+and+the+Frog-the+kiss.png" style="cursor: pointer; float: left; height: 154px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 200px;" /></a>Walt Disney (above, left) began with hand-drawn animation and when Disney began making feature-length films of beloved fairy tales like Snow White and Cinderella, cel animation was given a breakthrough advancement, which, in today's parlance is akin to motion-capture. Back then, film footages of real actors were used which were traced to produce the final animated sequence. That is the reason why the body movements of the main characters Cinderella are so lifelike, and it was this wow-factor that made those early Disney movies so endearing and appealing. The Princess and the Frog does not use this technique, but it still pays tribute to the past Disney masterpieces.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S1e0pb_7N7I/AAAAAAAAHw4/6TMCXccKrFA/s1600-h/The+Princess+and+the+Frog-just+one+kiss.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429006499801937842" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S1e0pb_7N7I/AAAAAAAAHw4/6TMCXccKrFA/s200/The+Princess+and+the+Frog-just+one+kiss.png" style="cursor: pointer; float: left; height: 160px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 200px;" /></a>Now that it's so easy to use computers to do animation, manual drawings and tracings have become a thing of the past, or so it seemed. Disney has revisited the dying art of hand-drawn animation and given it new life in The Princess and the Frog. It was recognized as the Best Motion Picture of 2009 by TIME Magazine, and for a good reason. Producer John Lasseter said it was a way of bringing the animation of Walt Disney Studios into the future. He said that beloved storytelling, successful characters, and a musical opulence (gospel- and soul-jazz-inspired) are essential to The Princess and the Frog.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://pixar.wikia.com/John_Lasseter" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429011348592467218" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S1e5DrJrHRI/AAAAAAAAHxY/JJFIT0b8nxQ/s200/Disney-John+Lasseter+and+Ed+Catmull-The+Princess+and+the+Frog.JPG" style="cursor: pointer; float: left; height: 150px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 200px;" /></a>In 2006, John Lasseter and Ed Catmull (bearded; left) became the heads of Walt Disney Animation Studios. While they acknowledged the value of new technology, they still recognized the importance and relevance of hand-drawn animation. Lasseter himself was into this kind of artform and it didn't seem right to leave it behind when it was all that Walt Disney was about as an animator. People like director John Musker were invited to pitch movie ideas and the story of The Princess and the Frog was chosen to be produced.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S1ez5JDwb8I/AAAAAAAAHww/Qxvofs46zbo/s1600-h/The+Princess+and+the+Frog-hand-drawn+animation.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429005670084014018" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S1ez5JDwb8I/AAAAAAAAHww/Qxvofs46zbo/s200/The+Princess+and+the+Frog-hand-drawn+animation.png" style="cursor: pointer; float: left; height: 162px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 200px;" /></a>Producer Peter Del Vecho has this to say about using traditional hand-drawn animation on The Princess and the Frog, "There's something really rewarding about watching the animator put down pencil to paper, and then when you're watching the film, you forget all about the individual pencil lines and those characters are really coming off the screen. You kind of take them home with you in your mind-each of the characters is rich and has a life of their own."<br />

With rising production costs, studios like Disney relocated production work to countries in Asia like the Philippines where numerous young people were given the break they were looking for to be a part of the magic of animation, particularly of Walt Disney. One of them is Filipino, <a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/person/880680/Roland-Michael-B-Ilagan">Roland Mechael (or Michael) Ilagan</a>, who became part of the animation team of Disney movies like Mulan and Brother Bear (left). With the rekindling of hand-drawn cel animation in The Princess and the Frog, history could repeat itself and kids who now dream of Disney cartoons may still get their chance to be a part of it all.<br />

What is this art form? It's only the use of miniatures in film making. Have you ever watched those Godzilla movies in the past that didn't use any computer graphics animation? The destruction scenes of Tokyo and other suburbs used miniatures. They may be crude, but they do a nice job in convincing the audience that Japan is being trampled on by a giant lizard - at least for the duration of the movie.<br />
<br />
Of course, there are miniature effects that are more convincing. In James Cameron's Titanic, the director used a partial scale replica of the rear part of the ship as the background of a scene with survivors in the water. Movies like the old Sinbad movies also used miniatures to film stop-motion creatures. In Superman, the Movie, miniatures were used to show the effects of the shifting of the San Andreas fault. Indeed, for years, movie audiences were agape in fascination with these miniatures because they were very effective.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/specialfx2/1920.html" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423193317547432946" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S0MNlsiv2_I/AAAAAAAAHnw/IKffFGpT_sM/s200/Ben+Hur-1925-hanged+coliseum+miniature.jpeg" style="cursor: pointer; float: left; height: 136px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 200px;" /></a>It may be old, but the technique of using miniatures for special effects is not dead. In fact, it is something that budding film makers can use quite effectively. They only need to know a few things about using miniatures to make the scenes more realistic. For example, since the laws of physics (like gravity) makes small objects behave differently, making them look small, film makers "overcrank" their cameras. In other words, they shoot the miniature scenes with a very high frame rate per second. This allows the motions of the scene to be slowed down, making it appear that a falling tiny Statue of Liberty is actually the real thing that's heavy and massive.<br />
<br />
Overcranking usually solves motion problem, except for water shoots. In small-scale, a tiny waterfall or tidal wave would produce droplets that are too large for scale. This discrepacny does not escape the human eye. The solution would be to make associated scale models like ships bigger so that the water flow and clumping appear more natural. This was also done by director Cameron in Titanic. Ship models a fraction of the original size were made for ocean scenes.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_sF0vGbwl_UA/SjR2f_sOkaI/AAAAAAAAAQg/Wi2ZIxDWv70/s1600-h/ufo.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423194418873088194" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/S0MOlzTPuMI/AAAAAAAAHn4/J_0GHGtop60/s200/UFO-likely+miniature+hung+from+a+string.jpg" style="cursor: pointer; float: left; height: 200px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 200px;" /></a>Miniatures can be mixed or composited with normal scale live action scenes. They can be placed on the foreground and made to appear as if they are in the background at a distance from the subjects. This technique is called forced perspective and was often used to fake UFO photographs in the past. Another technique would be to use a mirror with the silver (reflective material) scratched out a section. The miniatures are filmed through this hole as the normal scale scene plays as a reflection in the mirror. It can be tricky, but it really works. A variation of this is to use a matte painting on glass with open spaces through which the miniature scene is filmed.<br />
<br />
There are many ways to use miniatures in film. Just be creative and you may find use for it still in this age of computers!<br />

It was hyped as something that actually happened and a lot of people actually bought it even when in the back of their mind, they knew that what they were watching in the movie theater wasn't really real. That movie kind of was part of the reality show trend that began some years back. Well, Hollywood took note of how some movies can be marketed this way and marketers have made good use of the Internet to advertise movies.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.journey3dmovie.com/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 166px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SueezXfaE7I/AAAAAAAAHRk/3TukPYPWwCc/s200/Journey+to+the+Center+of+the+Earth-blu-ray-dvd-3d.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5397457283743093682" border="0" /></a>If you haven't noticed, the marketing machine of Hollywood has turned to social networks, blogs, and other sites that are normally used by people to talk about things. One example is the way marketers of <a href="http://www.journey3dmovie.com/">Journey to the Center of the Earth</a> made it appear that an institution and even a scientist character in the movie actually existed. A website and even a blog was put up just to explore the "veracity" of Vernian lore (already removed and replaced by a post-theatrical-release marketing site).<br /><br />It's interesting how the posts were written and how a reader can actually be taken for a ride. Basically, that's what Journey to the Center of the Earth is about in the first place. It's an adventure ride in which you suspend belief for just short of two hours.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.whowillsurvive2012.com/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 112px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SuefzxaQROI/AAAAAAAAHRs/POxgY8suUVY/s200/2012+movie-destruction+of+earth.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5397458390212429026" border="0" /></a>Another example of a movie in which Hollywood marketing that makes the most of people's tendency to suspend belief, and even spread the idea used in a movie as factual, is <a href="http://movie-sfx-bloopers.blogspot.com/2009/06/2012-eclipse-effect-in-trailer-is.html">2012</a>. Now that's a scary movie and is one based on actual beliefs that the world will end in December of that year. This is what many believe will happen and it's just because the ancient Mayan calendar ends in that year. If you make a search for 2012, a lot of sites will pop up. Some of these actually deal with the Mayan calendar while some are about the events that will supposedly happen when the time comes. However, some of these sites are really marketing tools for the 2012 movie. Here's one in Facebook: <a href="http://www.facebook.com/2012Movie">2012 Movie</a>.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI6UONWCq7A"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 155px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SueinTCRg3I/AAAAAAAAHSE/NzhWWno5_uI/s200/boy+trapped+in+a+balloon+promotional+hoax.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5397461474435236722" border="0" /></a>The marketers of 2012 have actually constructed a network of social sites and blogs that creates a kind of reality behind the movie. It's a viral campaign that rides on an existing one which involves people who are actually following up on events that will lead to a culmination of sorts in 2012, when the world will end supposedly. Well, some people think that movie producers have gone a bit far in their marketing. It's like the <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,567320,00.html">hoax about the boy stuck in the balloon</a> which was made to appear as real. It caused a lot of trouble for authorities, not to mention the expenses for a rescue that wasn't needed.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 137px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SuehF0s0q2I/AAAAAAAAHR8/dsI4drNlt4o/s200/Ask+an+Astrobiologist-NASA.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5397459799844891490" border="0" /></a>As for the 2012 movie, well, it's obviously fiction, but people are still scared by the idea that the world will soon end and experts say that with the way Hollywood is marketing it, the movie may cause unnecessary panic. <a href="http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2009/10/22/nasa-debunks-2012.html">NASA scientist, David Morrison says this through Discovery News</a>, "I don't have anything against the movie. It's the way it's been marketed and the way it exploits people's fears." Morrison's online column for NASA, <a href="http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/">Ask an Astrobiologist</a>, got more than a thousand questions about the end of the world. His answer: The world isn't going to end in 2012.<br /><br /><object id="swfclipV3759816" width="421" height="376" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V3759816&m=928558"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V3759816&m=928558"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <param name="base" value="."> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></object>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-75045731944626654252009-10-19T22:04:00.000-07:002009-10-19T22:36:17.746-07:00Spy Gadgets in Movies Never Die<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.gizmodesk.com/play-james-bond-with-these-ultra-cool-spy-gadgets/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 324px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/St1Ian6xGUI/AAAAAAAAHQc/b3yesj3bQ6E/s400/spy+gadgets+for+you.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394547550888991042" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.gadgetmadness.com/archives/20070409-m7_secret_agent_spy_ear.php"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/St1I-Ur57yI/AAAAAAAAHQk/KpPHbR1lICE/s200/spy+ear+gadget.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394548164201672482" border="0" /></a>What would a spy movie be without gadgets? Boring? Maybe so. Spy gadgets are almost a staple when it comes to spy movies like True Lies and <a href="http://movie-sfx-bloopers.blogspot.com/2009/10/bad-guy-crashes-through-thin-doorway.html">The Spy Next Door</a>. Who can forget about the old James Bond and Dick Tracy gadgets? Some of them are actually used in real life spy games. Remember Dick Tracy's watch phone? It's no longer a fictional item these days. Who knows how many movie gadgets have been made real?<br /><br />Collectors love spy gadgets. They not only bring back the good old days of movies, they also remind us that movies can sometimes serve as inspiration for the real stuff out there used by real spies in espionage. Of course, these gadgets or aspects of them can and do get to be used in gadgets made for ordinary people like us. Check out this video about the book The Incredible World of Spy-Fi.<br /><br /><object id="swfclipV1741826" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V1741826&m=925179" width="421" height="376"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V1741826&m=925179"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <param name="base" value="."> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></object><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=DK64117&id=HO-808253286"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/St1Lxy7po8I/AAAAAAAAHQs/6Sf7FxCFIn0/s400/_AUTOIMAGES_DK64117lg.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394551247517361090" border="0" /></a>Enter the secret world of Agent 007 in this quality hardcover book, James Bond: the Secret World of 007. <a href="http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=DK64117&id=HO-808253286">Click here</a> or on the image to place your order. Unfortunately, the viewers retain more of the fiction than the fact. Yes, it's true, these conclusions were based on studies done by psychologist Andrew Butler and his group at Washington University in St. Louis.<br /><br />Two experiments were conducted involving 108 students. The students were grouped and made to watch nine different movies. Along with each movie, the students were also given text to read about the real history behind the story of the movie. Before watching, the participants were warned that the movies can be inaccurate regarding historical facts.<br /><br />The results of the experiment revealed that when the movie was a faithful depiction of historical facts, the students remembered 50% of the facts even a week later. On the other hand, when the film did not match the factual historical details of the text, the students remembered most of the false events depicted in the film instead of what's written in the text. Some students were also adamant about their claims to having remembered what's historical rather than fictional and that the information also came from the text instead of the movie (which was mostly incorrect).<br /><br />The researchers note that the early warning about the inaccuracies of the films may have contributed to retention of historical facts relating to the text, while <span style="font-style: italic;">forgetting</span> about the warning a week or so later may have contributed to the students' remembering the misinformation n the movies. The study is interesting and shows us that movies do really help people remember historical events as if they watched it happen in front of their eyes. The problem lies in how accurate the events are depicted in the movies.<br /><br />One issue that best illustrates this is the argument posed by people concerned about the movies The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, which were based on fictional novels by Dan Brown (refer to video below). There were those who argued that those films may lead people to believe that the things depicted in the movies actually happened in history.<br /><br />Hint to history teachers: have students dramatize historical events in front of the class, and they'll likely remember what needs to be remembered. Otherwise, use documentary films or slide shows to support classroom discussions. Tangible <a href="http://movie-genie.blogspot.com/">collectible movie objects</a> based on the that are historical in their presentation can also help.<br /><br /><object id="swfclipV3690161" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V3690161&m=893672" width="421" height="376"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V3690161&m=893672"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <param name="base" value="."> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></object><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=DH48339&id=HO-808253286"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SoOe-M9zYfI/AAAAAAAAG_Y/JDmLezP0T10/s400/_AUTOIMAGES_DH48339lg.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369309972225286642" border="0" /></a>What's historical and what's fictional in the movie 300 may not be important as long as it's good entertainment both as a film and as a graphic novel. But there's <span style="font-style: italic;">really</span> something wrong with the poster just like the character in the movie. You can't quite pin it down when you view it in one of those back-illuminated ads that you usually pass by in train stations and urban walkways.<br /><br />If you do happen to run into an illuminated poster of Orphan, try looking at it as you walk past and you will see a strange metamorphosis taking place on the face of the girl. Somehow, the girl appears to age and become drawn - almost like it's turning into an undead monster. Up front, it appears normal, but when you look at it from an angle on either side of it, the face changes unerringly.<br /><br />One artist has said that it's done on purpose, but it's really hard to tell. If the metamorphosis effect is actually the result of artistry, then it's something that really should be admired. Otherwise, it's just a incidental visual effect but one that should give you more goosebumps. The uncanny effect cannot be replicated exactly if you examine the <a href="http://hotsup.blogspot.com/">movie</a> poster on the computer screen.<br /><a href="http://cinema-secrets.blogspot.com/2009/07/horror-movie-orphan-stirs-issues-about.html"><br />Orphan horror movie creates fears about adoption?</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-14995300706372888602009-07-23T20:29:00.000-07:002009-07-23T23:35:53.858-07:00Horror Movie Orphan Stirs Issues about Adoption<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://orphan-movie.warnerbros.com/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 145px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/Smk2IT1PaOI/AAAAAAAAG34/SMvLmh1LHl8/s400/Orphan-horror+movie-title.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361876347751721186" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://orphan-movie.warnerbros.com/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 305px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/Smk-cHKNYXI/AAAAAAAAG4A/s5S0jdqrtHU/s400/Orphan-horror+movie-Esther%27s+smile.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361885484040413554" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://orphan-movie.warnerbros.com/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 190px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SmkxBcCY0KI/AAAAAAAAG3Y/1288Joght28/s200/Orphan-girl+poster+photo.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361870732137124002" border="0" /></a>Movies, as long as they're not labeled as documentary or dramatization, are always supposed to be recognized as fictional, never mind if they are based on a true story.<br /><br />Generally, people do not find any harm in a movie that depicts characters and situations that can be scary in real life - especially in the horror genre. But sometimes, people do make a fuss and raise issues that are normally nonexistent or weren't taken up in similar movies.<br /><br />Take for instance the issue concerning the movie Orphan. It's supposed to be a fictional film about a psychotic killer orphan adopted by a family, yet some people say it may make people fearful of adopting children in the fears that they are out to kill their new family. The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute in the United States is saying the film <span style="font-style: italic;">will</span> have the unintended effect of skewing public opinion against children awaiting families both in the United States and abroad. It adds that it could feed into the unconscious fears of families opting for adoption that orphaned children are psychotic.<br /><br />The fears raised about Orphan has raised eyebrows and debate on whether adults, specifically adoptive families, are gullible enough to think that the movie is an actual reflection of reality. While it's true that kids up for adoption may have been abused or have psychological issues, it is not always the case and any information about a child's past would surely be studied and considered during the adoption process.<br /><br />It's a strange issue, but the concern of the adoption coalition is but a natural reaction to movie that does not present a positive image of orphans and the establishments that give them a home and a chance at having a family to care for them. Still, the real question that should be asked, perhaps, is if it's a real or nonsense concern. It kind of reminds us of the Chucky movies. But apart from those and the infusion of drama and comedy that we can usually expect from Chinese movies that we have loved to watch over and over again, there's also something else that makes them so appealing to watch. In a way, it plays a role that pretty much makes the film worth watching as it gives more realism to the Chinese nature of the production and the setting. What is it? The answer is food!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.ipman-movie.com/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 148px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SknAdhJ1YzI/AAAAAAAAGqc/jzee8ycIwT0/s200/Ip+Man-Donnie+Yen-feeding+.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353021245454902066" border="0" /></a>You may or may not have noticed it, but food in Chinese kung fu movies, particularly the classic ones, have a role that can sometimes rival those of the astors. In fact they are like supporting actors that add to the ambience of the situation. Somehow, it also makes the scene all the more oriental and exotic, especially if traditional Chinese food like noodles, dumplings, rice, and soups are used together with porcelain tableware.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drunken_Master"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SknArHBnMlI/AAAAAAAAGqk/cDjo5324aXM/s200/Drunken+Master-rice+wine+drinking.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353021478959264338" border="0" /></a>From comedic fight scenes of a young Jackie Chan with Samo Hung in Drunken Master (scene shown at left), to the social nuances displayed in later movies like Iron Monkey and Ip Man (starring Donnie Yen and <a href="http://movie-cast-pictures.blogspot.com/2009/06/xiong-dai-lin-plays-wife-of-ip-man.html">model-actress Xiong Dai Ling</a>), we see and experience how food is used in many cinematic ways - from humor, to drama, to action. If there's no food in a classic-feel kung fu movie, you can't help but feel that something's missing. So, if you plan on making your own kung fu movie, don't forget the scene with the hot noodles.<br /><br /><object id="swfclipV1930874" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V1930874&m=871498" width="421" height="376"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V1930874&m=871498"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <param name="base" value="."> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></object><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=DC12992&id=HO-808253286"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SksVujw60FI/AAAAAAAAGrU/Z0ZsJZyrHK0/s400/_AUTOIMAGES_DC12992lg.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353396471678554194" border="0" /></a>Sooo, you are a fan of kung fu, eh? The animation is too fast for you to read it in full, but it is just enough for your mind to take in the word "apocalypse" together with other words like "into a place."<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/2012/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/Sj8vWZBsj_I/AAAAAAAAGm0/zrv-yYuKl04/s200/2012-Roland+Emmerich-director.PNG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350046944061067250" border="0" /></a>While you can surmise as to where director Roland Emmerich (left) and writer Harold Kloser got the phrase, it's likely used to give viewers a sense of dread as the year 2012 nears. It does have some Biblical echoes and you'd likely find something similar if you look in the Book of Revelation. But let's not get too deep, it's just a movie after all - one that's banking on the people's fear of the end of the world - for it to become a blockbuster. It has lots of special visual imagery, but it has one or two <a href="http://movie-sfx-bloopers.blogspot.com/2009/06/cracking-sistine-chapel-effect-in-2012.html">graphical special effects that should have been redone</a> to fix mistakes.<br /><br /><a href="http://movie-sfx-bloopers.blogspot.com/2009/06/2012-eclipse-effect-in-trailer-is.html">Discover what's wrong with the eclipse effect in the 2012 trailer.</a><br /><br />Hear is a news video about a doomsday cult in Russia. If there's no scowling face of Arnold, then a terminator movie doesn't really cut it. It would be like making an Elvis movie with only Elvis impersonators to see. Director McG of Terminator: Salvation knew this, so he had to think of a way to get Governor Schwarzenneger into the picture even when the governor himself said he's too busy with governorship to make a cameo appearance.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.moviecatcher.net/7-action-movie-remakes-coming-soon/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 162px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SizjbFTPkMI/AAAAAAAAGhI/CIm2dfpc1To/s200/Roland+Kickinger-face+pasted+over+Arnold%27s+Conan.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344896912200798402" border="0" /></a>So what does McG do? <a href="http://hottest-hollywood-celebrity-news.blogspot.com/">Celebrity news</a> had it that he got another bodybuilder with a body that kind of looks kind of like that of Schwarzenneger's in the 1980s His name is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_Kickinger">Roland Kickinger</a> and he's also Austrian. The Movie Catcher blog had his face pasted on Arnold's as Conan the Barbarian (left) and the effect is amazing - a less glum barbarian! There's also news about a body cast of Arnold's used to recreate his old winning form digitally.<br /><br />So in Terminator: Salvation, it's either McG places a computer-generated image of Arnold's face over Kickinger's body or he uses a body-cast recreation. Yes, the picture on top shows the results of this merger of human and computer-technology and it's amazing since it appears in a movie about cyborgs!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://terminatorsalvation.warnerbros.com/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 118px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SizVxku5DjI/AAAAAAAAGgY/uhldEfwzYk4/s200/Arnold+Schwarzenneger_Terminator_wounded+eye.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344881905432596018" border="0" /></a>You can judge for yourself how realistic Arnold's face is in the movie (above and top left). It's supposed to look like how he appeard way back when he was cast in the first Terminator, although his hair appears to look up-to-date. Remember the scenes in the first movie where the terminator operates on his own eye? That was a mechanical special effect using a dummy (left). Now, it's in CG along with the use of another bodybuilder's body - Kickinger's.<br /><br /><object id="swfclipV3704231" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V3704231&m=857910" height="376" width="421"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V3704231&m=857910"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <param name="base" value="."> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></object><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/13657/alvinwriter/18756090">Unlimited movie downloads</a><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/9911/alvinwriter/18828982">Watch TV on your PC</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-16753798209055933612009-06-01T18:52:00.000-07:002009-06-08T03:30:34.798-07:00Some Secrets in Making a Terminator Movie Robot Look Real Revealed<object id="swfclipV3703032" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V3703032&m=854359" width="421" height="376"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/cube.swf?a=V3703032&m=854359"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <param name="base" value="."> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></object><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://terminatorsalvation.warnerbros.com/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 184px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SiSLEUZohII/AAAAAAAAGZY/vN9hpEc2rGc/s200/Terminator+Salvation+robots.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342547964280210562" border="0" /></a><a href="http://terminatorsalvation.warnerbros.com/">Terminator: Salvation</a> director, McG had a few things to say about how he makes the post-apocalyptic world of the possible future realistic. In the official <a href="http://rss.warnerbros.com/terminatorsalvation/">blog of the Terminator: Salvation movie</a>, Visual Effects supervisor Charles Gibson revealed that McG combined science-fiction, horror, and action seamlessly in the movie using such techniques as brisk camerawork. For his part, Gibson said the challenge was to "bury the effects into the photography."<br /><br />Gibson's words may be a bit vague but it may be his way of saying that the <a href="http://movie-sfx-bloopers.blogspot.com/">special effects</a> (whether computer-generated or mechanical) are supposed to be unnoticed in the presentation. That aside, there's also the need to make things believable such that the elements in the movie, whether flesh-covered robot or flying killer machines, are seen as plausible. The video above gives some hints as to how a Terminator movie robot is made to look real.<br /><br />The original design of the terminators was from <a href="http://terminator.wikia.com/wiki/Stan_Winston">Stan Winston</a>, who passed away in June 15, 2008. He made a cameo appearance in Terminator: Salvation as a resistance fighter who encounters a hydrobot, one of his creations.<br /><br />Do you wish to be a Terminator? But since they don't have much resources to make convincing computer graphics, makeup effects, or props, it sometimes takes some ingenuity, but not necessarily a big expense.<br /><br />Consider the photograph above of what appears to be an appearance of a creature of folklore in the Philippines - the <span style="font-style: italic;">manananggal</span> - a supernatural monster-human that flies off into the night with only a torso attached to bat wings and eats babies. It's been making the rounds of the Internet lately. At first glance, it appears to be real, but its actually a kite made of bamboo and painted Manila paper! You can download it to see the "monster" in more detail (left). Anyone who knows how to make kites can do it!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/090219-borneo-monster.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SbXzdOyZQvI/AAAAAAAAGHQ/t3NPW4shE7c/s200/Nabah_Borneo+monster_fake+picture.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311419019064591090" border="0" /></a>Another good example of a <a href="http://hotsup.blogspot.com/">movie</a> creature effect in a photograph is by using Photoshop. Just look at the image of a supposedly real <a href="http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/090219-borneo-monster.html">photograph of the mythical <span style="font-style: italic;">Nabah</span></a>, a Bornean monster of the river Baleh (left). Judging by the size of the snake-like creature, it should be over a hundred feet long and at least several feet wide at the head. Is it real? Well, just like the photograph of the <span style="font-style: italic;">manananggal</span>, it seems too perfect and too well-framed in the picture. Also, there should be other pictures of these two creatures since they are both moving. Wouldn't you take more than one?<br /><br />Even though the example pictures here are not convincing enough to fool people for them to believe them to be real, they just might be good enough for the <a href="http://hotsup.blogspot.com/">movies</a>! Check out this video footage that's supposedly that of the Loch Ness monster swimming. It's an old cliche yes, and <a href="http://hotsup.blogspot.com/2008/11/carla-gugino-made-stereotypically-super.html">stereotypical for science fiction</a> weapons, but it's still exciting to see visually.<br /><br />Old Hollywood movies have made us of a variety of props to achieve the effect. Some have even used a sheet of cloth that's pulled quickly out of the muzzle of a handheld weapon. Quick cutting and sound effects help to make the visual play convincing.<br /><br />If Hollywood was able to do that for commercial films, then why not you? As a movie fan, you deserve the right to make your own mechanical special effects without the criticism of your peers. Just tell them how these things were done before computer graphics and animation and that it takes more creativity to pull a convincing one off. Here is a do-it-yourself video (DIY) in which you can learn how to make your own death ray-gun for your home movie. Enjoy!<br /><br /><script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/voxant_player.js?a=V2488477&m=703499&w=420&h=375&v=2"></script><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/13657/alvinwriter/18756090">Unlimited movie downloads</a><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/9911/alvinwriter/18828982">Watch TV on your PC</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-86013621065823939102008-11-06T16:47:00.000-08:002008-11-06T18:56:06.354-08:00Reclaiming the Blade Documents History of the Sword Using Cinema<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SROqXLDXb3I/AAAAAAAAEV8/0MlxJ7XNrUU/s1600-h/Reclaiming+the+Blade_Bob+Anderson_as+Darth+Vader+swordplay+double.PNG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 304px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SROqXLDXb3I/AAAAAAAAEV8/0MlxJ7XNrUU/s400/Reclaiming+the+Blade_Bob+Anderson_as+Darth+Vader+swordplay+double.PNG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265739704406863730" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.reclaimingtheblade.com/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 142px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SROpptVUuLI/AAAAAAAAEVs/V6AXWWZMuqs/s200/Reclaiming+the+Blade_anvil+and+hammer+on+sword.PNG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265738923335006386" border="0" /></a>What do you get when you bring together some actors from Lord of the Rings in a documentary movie about the history of the sword? It takes you on a fascinating ride showing the facts, fiction, and fascination behind the sword. The movie shows how the sword was once an icon of defense, war, and honor and how it's now used as a symbol of the same in movies like Star Wars, Beowulf, and Lord of the Rings or simply as a prop to inspire those who still believe in it's mystique.<br /><br />It features prominent swords master and stunt coordinator Bob Anderson (left), who has taught the likes of Errol Flynn and tutored contemporary actors like Viggo Mortensen in swordsmanship.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.reclaimingtheblade.com/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 140px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SROsrCnMk_I/AAAAAAAAEWE/o_LquOAEpaE/s200/Reclaiming+the+Blade_Bob+Anderson_swordsmaster.PNG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265742244761867250" border="0" /></a>If there's a real Obi-Wan Kenobi, it's Anderson. You know, someone throws a bladed weapon and it sticks into something - like a wall.<br /><br />Well, one way of duplicating this effect is to have the blade already placed beforehand in the spot of impact. It works quite well with long, thin blades, like those used in wushu, because you can make the blade quiver before the camera pans to it from the direction of the blade thrower. This is ideal if the sequence starts with the thrower and the camera "follows" the flight of the blade (which should be just for an instant), unti it hist the target. It takes timing, but it's doable and easy.<br /><br />Another knife throw effect that's easy to do is to prepare the point of impact to receive the blade. Only this time, the blade would be coming from the other side of the target (like a thin wall). The thrower pretends to throw the blade, but what he really does is to drop it behind him and just goes through the motions. In time with the action, a stage hand drives the "real" blade from behind the wall, giving the illusion that it was the one that came from the thrower's hand. This technique is a favorite of stage magicians, but if also sometimes used in movie shoots as a mechanical effect.<br /><br />Here is a video where you can learn more about do-it-yourself knife-throw special effects in filming.<br /><br /><script language="javascript" src="http://www.thenewsroom.com/mash/swf/voxant_player.js?a=V2485548&m=683588&w=420&h=375&v=2"></script><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/13657/alvinwriter/18756090">Unlimited movie downloads</a><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/9911/alvinwriter/18828982">Watch TV on your PC</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-74216239579133730762008-10-27T23:40:00.000-07:002008-10-28T00:13:02.548-07:004K HD Technology Used in My Bloody Valentine 3D Movie<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://media.movies.ign.com/media/142/14233763/vids_1.html"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 305px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SQa6lIJSjWI/AAAAAAAAEMI/Fgn3gMWzlGA/s400/My+Bloody+Valentine_3D_3D+effect.PNG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262098361633377634" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://media.movies.ign.com/media/142/14233763/vids_1.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 148px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SQa5-STiv3I/AAAAAAAAEMA/27d4hShEyO0/s200/My+Bloody+Valentine_3D_pickaxe+murderer.PNG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262097694345838450" border="0" /></a>We all thought that high definition movies are just that- high definition. But apparently, there are different levels of high definition. They typical is 2000 pixels. But the remake of the 1981 horror flick, My Bloody Valentine, uses 4000 pixels.<br /><br />This means the new My Bloody Valentine is very, very sharp and with more detail captured. Such a level of definition is ideal for 3D and indeed, this version of <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/09/05/jamie-king-talks-my-bloody-valentine-3d-and-how-you%E2%80%99ve-never-seen-anything-like-itliterally/">My Bloody Valentine is in 3D</a>. Abrams (Alias, Lost) uses the name "Kelvin" in his movies? In fact, he kind of "drops" it in all his projects. You think it's strange? It's a common practice - Disney has its Mickey Mouses, Marvel has its Stan Lees - Abrams has his Kelvins. In Mission Impossible 3 for instance, there's a scene where a letter is seen addressed to a certain H. Kelvin. In <a href="http://hottest-hollywood-celebrity-news.blogspot.com/2008/10/jj-abramss-star-trek-revives-sixties.html">Star Trek 9</a>, there's a <a href="http://i-mash.blogspot.com/2008/10/condo-in-england-designed-like-starship.html">starship</a> called the U.S.S. Kelvin (top).<br /><br />But who is this Kelvin, anyway? Abrams reveals that it's his maternal grandfather, Henry Kelvin, who was a big influence on him as a child, and had owned an electronics company. No doubt Kelvin inspired the future director in many ways and sent his imagination soaring - a characteristic befitting of a successful director.<br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/13657/alvinwriter/18756090">Unlimited movie downloads</a><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/9911/alvinwriter/18828982">Watch TV on your PC</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-78459614325633260882008-10-09T18:34:00.000-07:002008-10-09T19:19:27.216-07:00How to Summon a Ghost to Scare People Using Visual Effects<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://utminers.utep.edu/lacarrera/history.htm"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SO63dLovIMI/AAAAAAAAD3Q/FY9HpTsvV88/s400/movie_ghost_projector.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255339527155687618" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.missyouso.com/html/ghostfootage.shtml"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SO64rD-vJEI/AAAAAAAAD3Y/ljhdjSoy5eg/s200/scary_ghost_image.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255340865130275906" border="0" /></a>What's a good thing to do for Halloween? Make something scary of course. Here's a trick that's been used by stage magicians and movie makers for decades to produce an illusion of ghosts. Mind you, this trick has scared audiences due to it's convincing effect and some of the magicians have been jailed for practicing black magic - even though it's simple movie special effects magic!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://crazycoolphoto.blogspot.com/2008/01/scary-weird-ghost-photos-part-ii.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SO65mPk0G8I/AAAAAAAAD3g/K6Zi8lWgRBo/s200/ghost-scary-006.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255341881855056834" border="0" /></a>In old magical stage shows, there used to be this trick in which a ghost is summoned in a box (sometimes it's a coffin). Sometimes, this ghost changes form, it's flesh seemingly dissolving until only the skeleton is left.<br /><br />Other times, the ghost transforms into a monster with fangs and all! It's a trick that has scared young and old alike and is indeed very convincing if there is a crowd that reacts to it. How is this done?<br /><br />It doesn't take much to do this as long as you have a digital camera, a computer, a slide projector, some way to generate flameless dry ice smoke (or a large sheet of transparent plastic), and the slide of your "ghost." What you do is to take a picture of a really scary ghost with a dark, plain background (you can paint it yourself if you have the talent, otherwise, get one from an obscure book).<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://scareo.com/scary-pictures/scary-ghosts-picture-on-a-stairway/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SO66LIvs3EI/AAAAAAAAD3o/H-lm4RnswWA/s200/brown_lady_ghost_picture.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255342515676830786" border="0" /></a>Take your computer and projector and pick a nice, scary place for your ghost to appear at night (preferably beside a private but scary-looking private <a href="http://hotsup.blogspot.com/2008/10/house-another-horror-movie-set-in-house.html">"haunted" house</a>). Make some dry ice smoke (or set up your plastic sheet), turn on your projector, and make the image of the ghost appear on your improvised smoke or plastic screen!<br /><br />Note that the dry ice smoke generator should be set up at an elevated place since the curtain of smoke will flow down to the ground and not upwards.<br /><br />Now that you know how to do the trick, you'd probably like to know how you can make things convincing. That's simple. Just perform your scary trick when people least expect it. That makes it more believable. Just don't do anything that can get you shot for being mistaken as something dangerous!<br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/13657/alvinwriter/18756090">Unlimited movie downloads</a><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/9911/alvinwriter/18828982">Watch TV on your PC</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-32438277499660724532008-09-01T20:28:00.000-07:002008-09-02T17:26:53.918-07:00Ragnarock Promoted in Max Payne Movie<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.maxpaynethemovie.com/US/index.html"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SLy93ZkvIhI/AAAAAAAADh0/yNITgl7yHiU/s400/Max_Payne_title.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241272825807839762" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.maxpaynethemovie.com/US/index.html"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SLy5MATHMbI/AAAAAAAADhs/aQn_LC5DgaQ/s400/Max_Payne_Ragnarock_sign.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241267682242146738" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.maxpaynethemovie.com/US/index.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SLy-up_erlI/AAAAAAAADh8/QROXvl7OLls/s200/Max_Payne_shooting.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241273775107780178" border="0" /></a><a href="http://new-film-trailers.blogspot.com/2008/09/max-payne-trailer-is-maximum-action.html">Max Payne</a> is really a video game turned to a movie. The story revolves around a cop who's family is murdered and there's plenty of references to Viking mythology particularly about Ragnarok, a series of events that ultimately lead to the death of specific Norse Gods.<br /><br />While this is all part of the world of Max Payne, viewers would see the word "Ragnarok" (see 2nd pic from top) as a reference to that Korean multiplayer game Ragnarock. There are lots of shooting here as is expected from an adaptation of a third-person shooter. The movie stars Mark Whalberg and <a href="http://movie-cast-pictures.blogspot.com/2008/09/mila-kunis-is-in-max-payne.html">Mila Kunis</a>.<br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/13657/alvinwriter/18756090">Unlimited movie downloads</a><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/9911/alvinwriter/18828982">Watch TV on your PC</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-65148126633500967912008-08-29T01:39:00.000-07:002008-08-29T02:03:02.061-07:00Claus von Stauffenberg Photo Doctored to Resemble Tom Cruise but the German Officer Does Resemble the Actor<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.slate.com/id/2193467/#tomfoolery"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SLe5PNFTNXI/AAAAAAAADfs/9UaQ-UcJlHQ/s400/Valkyrie_publicity_pictures+of+Cruise+and+von+Stauffenberg.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239860362329929074" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PICT4156.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SLe7BHhJYrI/AAAAAAAADf8/mTsdrtB0DhA/s200/Colonel+Stauffenberg_bust_Berlin+shrine.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239862319341200050" border="0" /></a>It's funny how Hollywood movie marketing people like to tweak the visuals of actors and actresses to make them look larger than life (or at least make a few physical assets bigger). But in the case of the publicity photo for the Tom Cruise film Valkyrie, it was the photo of the historical character the actor plays (Claus von Stauffenberg; at left) that was retouched.<br /><br />The side-by-side profile photos of Cruise and Stauffenberg created a stir when the original photo of the Nazi officer was released and it wasn't the same as the one used in the publicity layout. See how the three compare below. The one on the left is the original archival photo; the middle one is the one used for the movie publicity; and of course that's Cruise on the right.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.slate.com/id/2193467/#tomfoolery"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SLe3pU26A8I/AAAAAAAADfc/W_Bu8PO_a04/s400/Tom_Cruise_Claus+von+Stauffenberg_doctored_pic.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239858612070384578" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/13657/alvinwriter/18756090">Unlimited movie downloads</a><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/9911/alvinwriter/18828982">Watch TV on your PC</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-17063530784078135292008-08-14T18:54:00.000-07:002008-08-14T22:38:12.599-07:00Quarantine Movie Experience in a Game<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/quarantine/index.html"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SKT57ZwzfPI/AAAAAAAADNo/96WcCDluuQE/s400/Quarantine_movie_site_freaky_game.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234583465834544370" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/quarantine/index.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SKT7JZrPCVI/AAAAAAAADNw/LcbzayB7GFg/s200/Quarantine_movie_reporter+scream.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234584805840980306" border="0" /></a>The movie Quarantine is your Blair Witch Project inside an apartment building. The plot isn't really important.<br /><br />What you do get is a pretty reporter - played by <a href="http://movie-cast-pictures.blogspot.com/2008/08/jennifer-carpenter-is-quarantined.html">Jennifer Carpenter</a> - and her cameraman trapped inside a residential building that's been quarantined due to some virus - which of course, changes the occupants inside into bloodthirsty monsters.<br /><br />It's the perfect scenario for a first person shooter game with the firepower, freaks, and creeps. In fact, producers have provided the means for you to experience the movie in a game in the official Quarantine movie site. It's the kind of marketing movie makers do these days.<br /><br />You wouldn't want to play the game at night while alone in your room wearing surround headphones. It's an immersive and scary game that's really a movie preview that works together with the <a href="http://new-film-trailers.blogspot.com/2008/08/quarantine-trailer-strikes-fear.html">trailer</a>. <span style="font-style: italic;">Don't</span> play it if you value your sanity.<br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/13657/alvinwriter/18756090">Unlimited movie downloads</a><br /><br /><a href="https://paydotcom.com/r/9911/alvinwriter/18828982">Watch TV on your PC</a>alvinwriterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871361258417212325noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2705417902797019153.post-89433829051498316412008-07-23T00:07:00.000-07:002008-07-23T16:26:32.335-07:00Terminator: Salvation Trailer Hidden Subliminal Cues Revealed<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://rss.warnerbros.com/terminatorsalvation/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SIbgcNy9ijI/AAAAAAAAC8U/9l1Rq6PzXiI/s400/Terminator+Savlation_cybernetic+organism.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226111192954407474" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://rss.warnerbros.com/terminatorsalvation/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SIbkcy8-kmI/AAAAAAAAC80/fBZoeWmnOlY/s200/Terminator+Salvation_terminator_crude.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226115600975041122" border="0" /></a>Much of the visuals of the Terminator movie series are meant to be realistic. After all, they are really a reflection of what we fear could happen to the world - or what is happening right now - no matter how distant the events are from our homes, where we feel safe and secure.<br /><br />Television, and the news we watch in it, are our only connection to dire events like the wars and suffering that are part of the life of other people, who may be at the other side of the world. Such happenings are, for the most part, beyond us but the news makes it real for us.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://rss.warnerbros.com/terminatorsalvation/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SIbikwDqhmI/AAAAAAAAC8s/SPuki9_oeKU/s400/Terminator+Salvation_conceptart1-thumb.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226113538613479010" border="0" /></a>Interestingly, the <a href="http://new-film-trailers.blogspot.com/2008/07/terminator-salvation-teaser-trailer.html">trailer</a> of <a href="http://hotsup.blogspot.com/2008/07/terminator-salvation-brings-back.html">Terminator: Salvation</a> seems to attempt to give this sensation of realism or relates the visuals of destruction and violence against humans and nature real through a subliminal message using a word, flashed for a fraction of a second in between teaser scenes interspersed with static effects. Viewers will not see it, but the theory is that the mind still sees and interprets it - giving a sense of reality to make-believe scenes - if you can believe that stuff.<br /><br />Here are the stills where you can discern the hidden word. Can you read it?<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://rss.warnerbros.com/terminatorsalvation/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SIbfa2DHoHI/AAAAAAAAC70/S_k8Z7pWBzM/s320/Terminator+Salvation_hidden+words1.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226110069888229490" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://rss.warnerbros.com/terminatorsalvation/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SIbfrFQLyzI/AAAAAAAAC78/O4lZLkmttW0/s320/Terminator+Salvation_hidden+words2.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226110348847467314" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://rss.warnerbros.com/terminatorsalvation/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SIbf8R7fyII/AAAAAAAAC8E/I8gNV4RdNwA/s320/Terminator+Salvation_hidden+words3.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226110644308134018" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://rss.warnerbros.com/terminatorsalvation/"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_O3F0fH5AGXQ/SIbgN4F4ZVI/AAAAAAAAC8M/gri_yTgy_2k/s320/Terminator+Salvation_hidden+words5.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226110946610013522" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This last one is an enigma. But no, they're not real. They're composites made using rover models and actual photos of the Martian surface taken by the real rovers on Mars.<br /><br />The colored picture is that of the rover Spirit on the flank of Husband Hill on Mars. The black and white picture is of the same rover in the Columbia Hills. They were made using the Virtual Presence in Space technology developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. It is a mix of image-processing technology, visualization, and cinema special effects.<br /><br />Developers say the "synthesis gives a virtual presence to viewers which can help in space mission planning, to accustom people in navigating in an alien environment.<br /><br />In a related visual technology, scientists are now able to experience the surface of other planets like Mars using Hollywood 3D technology which was used in one of the movies in the Nightmare in Elm Street series.
